Meet the Court Reporters’ Training Council
The Georgia Certified Court Reporters’ Training Council,established under the rules and regulations of the Board of Court Reporting, was created to improve the quality of court reporting services in Georgia through the development of training standards, curriculum, and continuing education for the court reporters in Georgia. All court reporters licensed to practice verbatim court reporting are required to obtain a minimum of ten hours of approved training per calendar year to maintain a valid certificate.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specifically, the Georgia Certified Court Reporters’ Training Council will:
- Promulgate rules and regulations relating to continuing education and training requirements;
- Prescribe the requirements for curricula and standards comprising the continuing education courses and for credit-worthy activity;
- Identify areas of training needs by reviewing programs being attended by court reporters and suggest program refinements to training providers;
- Review and investigate requests for extensions of time based on disability, hardship, or extenuating circumstances;
- Evaluate course exceptions when presented for credit.
The Board of Court Reporting employs the services of the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education (ICJE) to maintain the continuing education records of court reporters; process course evaluations and prepare data for the Georgia Certified Court Reporters’ Training Council; maintain an up-to-date manual on new learning methodologies sought for accreditation by court reporters; and assess curriculum submissions for approved training courses.
